Spender was a close friend of the renowned German literary critic Ernst Robert Curtius (1886-1956), visiting him regularly on his annual trips to Salzburg. Curtius had translated T.S Eliot's The Wasteland into German and would take on the role of mentor to Spender before the war. He both edited and translated works for Spender. Item #48727
